BEFORE YOU STEP ON THE MAT

Frequently asked
questions.

A few things to know before you start your practice loop.

What is GrappleLoop?

GrappleLoop is a private BJJ practice journal for iPhone. Choose one move or concept to focus on, review its cue before training, and check in afterward with what happened and what you want to try next.

Is GrappleLoop a subscription?

No. You receive six free check-ins per account, then can unlock lifetime access with a one-time $9.99 USD purchase in the iPhone app. Local pricing and taxes are shown at purchase. Saving new check-ins requires a connection and continued availability of the hosted service.

How does the price compare with note-taking apps?

GrappleLoop’s lifetime unlock is a one-time $9.99 USD purchase with no recurring bill. Evernote and Notion offer paid plans billed monthly or annually, as well as free tiers. GrappleLoop is built specifically for your BJJ practice: a focus, a cue, and a check-in after class.

How is this different from a training log?

A log tells you what happened. GrappleLoop also gives you a focus and a cue to review before your next session. Each check-in helps you decide what to keep working on.

How does GrappleLoop show my progress?

Attempted check-ins build a practice trail and weekly stamps by training date. Weekly reviews highlight recorded first Hits, and completed focuses keep attempt counts, Hits, and your changing cue. These reflect what you recorded, not a claim of mastery. Not attempted saves stay in your history without adding attempt progress. Reward sounds and haptics can be switched off separately in Settings.

Can I save video links from other apps?

Yes. Use the iOS share sheet to capture a web or video link and confirm its title. Review shared links in Library to save them as personal references, with an optional link to a learning. Capturing a link works without signing in or a connection; saving it to your account requires a connection.

Do I need a coach or training partner to use it?

No. Your practice loop is personal, whether you’re just starting out or have trained for years. Pick something from class or a position you want to improve, take it to training, and check in afterward.

What counts as a free check-in?

Each saved Focus Check-in uses one of your six free check-ins, including “Not attempted.” Reviewing your cue or reading your history doesn’t use a check-in. Starting a new Focus doesn’t reset your allowance.

What happens after the six free check-ins?

You can keep reading your existing entries. To add more check-ins, unlock lifetime access with a one-time in-app purchase. There is no recurring subscription or automatic charge.

Is my journal private? Can I export it?

Your journal belongs to your account, with no public feed. You can export your training data or delete your account from the app’s account settings, even after your free check-ins are used up.

Do I need an internet connection?

You need a connection to save new check-ins and sync your journal. Previously loaded entries can remain available offline, and widgets show their last updated information until the app refreshes.

Can I use GrappleLoop on Android or the web?

GrappleLoop: BJJ Practice is available now on the App Store for iOS. Your journal and check-ins live in the iOS app; Android and browser versions are not available.
